Resources to Grow You & Your Business
Clients and members of my Facebook group often ask me for recommendations on great books, podcasts, and which apps/tools I use to grow my business. Below are some of my favorite resources that have helped me grow as a creative and business owner.
This list is always expanding and changing as I am, but what you see here are the ones that have easily contributed most to my growth.
BOOKS & PODCASTS

EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey
How to blend the best of your entrepreneurial spirit with sound leadership. Practical business tips and strategies that every business owner needs.

A blunt, funny, and enlightening book on communication. One of my favorites! Real stories and strategies for improving your communication to become a better leader, professional, and human being.
Disrupt Yourself by Whitney Johnson
How to take your current path in life/career and "disrupt" it so you don't plateau in complacency.

Great insight into the "work-life balance" myth and how we don't actually want perfect balance. This is applicable to everyone, regardless of your state in life.
Contracts, Invoicing & Workflows
I wasn’t sure how HoneyBook would work for me at first. They partnered with Rising Tide Society, which I felt was primarily geared towards photographers. As a graphic designer and business consultant, I didn’t see how I fit into their platform. I was wrong. After diving into the platform, it’s truly the all-in-one solution I was looking for. With HoneyBook you can:
Use contract templates
Create branded, online invoices
Create custom contact forms that integrate with HoneyBook’s CRM
Set up templates for emails, client questionnaires, etc.
Design automated workflows that send emails, create tasks, etc.
Keep track of your income and expenses
View reports on your finances
Track time and hours spent on projects
Communicate directly with clients from within the app
GET PAID $$$
I only wish I had taken the time to look into HoneyBook sooner. Now I’m proud to be part of the Educator program, which allows me to give YOU $200 off your subscription!
I spent 5+ years doing email marketing in my old office jobs, 3 1/2 of which were spent managing extensive, automated funnels. I’ve used more platforms than most people ever want to, and I’ve talked to their sales and support people and sat through demos for hours. I used to be a huge supporter MailChimp for my own business and sometimes still recommend it to clients. However, I now wholeheartedly use ActiveCampaign, and I don’t plan to go back.
You can read more about my experience here.
Suffice it to say, ActiveCampaign gives me the ability to set up simple, beautiful templates and create a customized, seamless experience for my contacts. It integrates well with every platform I use, and I haven’t had any issues from a technical standpoint. It’s also reasonably priced given the potential for running powerful and complex email marketing. I recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone planning on growing their business with marketing funnels.
Landing Pages & Lead Generation
I used to use LeadPages but thought I’d give ClickFunnels a try at the prompting of a mentor. I think they do a great job creating aesthetically pleasing templates that are simple to use, while also giving me the freedom to customize them as much as a I want. As a graphic designer, I am thankful for this! I also love how I can “copy” a funnel shared with me by someone else. For example, if someone creates a badass funnel for downloading a freebie, they can share a link with me and it will automatically copy it into my account. Saves a ton of time and headache!
Online Courses & Downloads
Podia is the easiest, simplest course building platform I’ve used. I’ve tested Kajabi, Teachable, WordPress (and its plugins), and even ClickFunnels, but I stick with Podia. The pricing is far more affordable, they don’t take a percentage of your sales, and the drag-and-drop features are beautiful. I love its brand and personality, and the customer service is extremely fast. The best part is they keep adding great features—memberships, upsells, digital downloads, commenting, and more.
